I was wondering if there are any palms that are hardy to zone 8a when they are seedlings. I think a trachy is but im not sure i'm pretty sure a needle and minor are but it there any others? thanks.

No, a trachy is not cold hardy as a seedling. After the 2018 blizzard I saw probably a dozen dead waiste-tall trachys. Some of the larger, mature specimens (15-ft+) did survive up close to houses.

Seedlings of needle palms and sabal minor (+variants) are hardy. I have a gazillion sabal minor and louisianas all around the yard which survived the back to back 2017 and 2018 blizzards with temps down to -5F. and the ground frozen rock hard for many weeks.

The larger specimens I see are mature enough to fruit but I haven't heard of the homeowners offering any seedlings for sale and there should be plenty of volunteers growing everywhere if they were. Maybe I'll visit and knock on the door sometime.

By volunteers do you mean seedlings growing around the base of the palm?

Also my temp hasn't gone below 10 in 6 years since that polar vortex. Before that we got temps that were above 10 for the past 15 years(I thinks its climate change and urban heat.)
