Do you mulch the top of your soil?

What's everyones stance on mulching for potted palms?

Do you mix it into the soil blend, or do you prefer a layer on top, or both? Neither?

For you in GA I'd recommend a layer of wood mulch on top or something water retentive.  I use the big pine bark 'nuggets' in most large pots.

I decided to put some mulch over one of my potted palms indoors but now I'm debating whether or not to take it off..  the moisture has barely dropped over 8 days.

The pot has plenty of holes so no water is sitting in it, but I'm not sure if standing in consistent moisture is equally as concerning?

Oh I was thinking outside pots!  but indoors it's really up to you.  You could put something more decorative like round pebbles or glass beads too if you want.
