Chamaerops Humilis Cerifera Browning

Hello all,

Had a question regarding my newly planted Blue Med Fans. They have been in the ground about 3 weeks now and the oldest fronds appear to be browning and I'm wondering why.

I watered them maybe 3-4 times the first week, then 2 or 3 the next week. I have clay soil with a mulch bed, so I assume they've been keeping moist. Perhaps I'm watering too often? They came in 5 gallon pots, if that matters.

Probably transplant shock. However you are watering way too much.  I would only do once a week at the most.

Agreed with @Chester B Chamies are from dry aired regions. While they benefit from water, they don't like wet feet, or to be drowned.

I am in 8a also however in south/central Alabama. Check out my profile for my thread on them.

Alabama experienced an EXTREMELY WET winter this year, with flooding for 2 months straight. Surprisingly, mine did excellent. However, they are all planted in raised garden beds, with heavily amended soils that are quite loamy and have a large amount of mulch worked in.

If you've got clay, and planted them in straight clay, hold up on the watering.

10-4, thanks guys. I know they are from an arid climate, but figured the first few weeks that they might need extra water to establish. I'll cut it out!

Make sure no air pockets in that planting job???  probably just shock, maybe sunburn shock from being greenhouse grown?
