GottmitAlex
Seems they're calling for 5 days of rain starting tonight. Tomorrow looks as if it's going to be bulk of the downpour. This one caught me off guard. Not going to protect (tarp only) my red Tahiti dwarf tonight since it needs the rain. Tomorrow I will though. The little guy is the one in the 2nd pic. 2 5 year high 42.2C/108F (07/06/2018)--5 year low 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)--Lowest recent/current winter: 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)

Here I have coconuts germinating all winter long with temps like you're having this week and it doesn't faze the little guys getting wet or cool rain. Had one pop through the husk over the weekend and temps were high 50's for lows and low 70's for highs. Had a couple hours of cold rain today. They'll be fine, happens every winter. Do you think the red Tahiti is a bit more cold sensitive than other cocos or just being cautious?

This. Haari Papua/red Tahiti dwarf (true dwarf as are the Fiji dwarf cocos) are the frailest of cocos. As a matter of fact, their coco production is less than half of what a fiji dwarf produces. These cocos are one of the few crème de la crème coconuts for collectors. These are not acquired for their coconut harvest, but for their rarity. Their deep dark red color (akin to a red spicata dwarf) is one of the factors which make this coconut a very rare palm (and expensive...) GottmitAlex
Ok, I had to ante up on this one. It's 1030pst. Soil is saturated. I just draped out the tarp over the red Tahiti/haari papua/rangaroa dwarf coco. All the others, as last year, are exposed to the elements. 1 5 year high 42.2C/108F (07/06/2018)--5 year low 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)--Lowest recent/current winter: 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)
