Kentia palms. Are they really good indoor palms?

Have you tried a product called garden phos? It helps with root rot.

I have not. Never heard of it but will check it out.  I AM going to replace as much "soil" any future Kentia I buy comes in to 100% perlite like I have done with other palms with success.

I snapped these pics of the largest Kentias I have ever seen growing indoors.  I was with co-workers at some real nice restaurant in Washington, DC a few years ago.  The rear of the restaurant opened up into a huge interior mall-like office space flooded with light from soaring skylights.  Anyone venture to guess how old these are?  60 years old?  As I mentioned earlier, mine are 20 yrs old and no trunks.

This is one of my Howea's. I grow it as hydroplant. The photo is from november, when it had to stay outside for a few days because of some maintenance that had to be done in my livingroom.

Beautifully grown!  Nice job.  How old is that palm?

It's about twenty years old. The first ten years as an officeplant and by the time my employer wanted to get rid of these plants, I took six of them home in the back of my car! At the time they were about five foot, now this one is about fifteen foot.

20 years, okay about the same age as mine.  And six of them in the back of your car (LOL)… sounds like you recognized a treasure when you saw it.  Great opportunity!
