One of my other local nurseries got a few coconuts. The roots were growing out the bottom couldn’t help myself. Used brand new pool filter sand. Seems like it drains amazing hopefully this palm will live it. My little girl for scale

Whoah! That is huge.  Your little girl is beautiful!

Is it a tall? shade grown?

I can see that the leaves are bifid.

How tall is it?

5 year high 42.2C/108F (07/06/2018)--5 year low 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)--Lowest recent/current winter: 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)

Everything that comes up here is shade grow. To look more tropical in a short time this palm is 7 feet tall thanks my little girl is a gem. So yeah in theory when we buy palms here. They get smaller with time in the sun I have a 7 gallon Phoenix roebellini that’s the same size frond wise and a new 3 gallon one I got that was shade grown

Beautiful little girl Rob they're great fun at that age, my daughter is 13 now. Great looking coconuts too, I hope they do well for you mate. I  rarely see them in plant nurseries here in Perth and when I  do they've been brought down from Darwin.

What do you think of this silica sand? Seems to drain amazing. Same sand I use for my pool filter

How coarse is the sand?

I had an issue once where I filled one of the coconut plots in the garden with fine sand. Fine sand=mud.

Coarse sand= drainage. Needless to say the coconut which was planted there acquired root rot. I had to dig up the 3x3x3ft of sand and replace it with coarse, playground type sand.

Ironically my alfie is planted in that spot, poor thing.  Of course, for the 4 coconuts I do have planted, I switch every other month between salt and fertilizer.  (For the alfie, just fertilizer of course)

Alex this sand allows the water right through. An hour later the top was dry. I think it will work well. No muck and have clay pebbles on the bottom as well

I cannot get palm gain in Canada. Tried it. Amazon refunded me! I of course fertilized with water softener salt! We will see how it goes it’s been sheltered in a greenhouse it’s whole life. Now crazy daily winds will work those stretched fronds a lot. This palm is definitely taller than it should be!
