All of our Nitida in 3G pots outside exposed didn't blink at 21F this year.  Zero spear pull so I'm surprised that fusca had spear pull.  A few of our princeps actually spear pulled, which doesn't surprise me being a smaller Tracycarpus.   Trachycarpus genus in general spear pulls a lot when young when exposed to high teens.  I know of one with a foot of trunk that burned at 8F but is alive today in Lousianna.  It did not spear pull.

I was surprised too about my L. nitida, but I think it was due to the fact that it happened in November when everything was still pushing new growth and it was 80° just a day or two before.  Same thing happened with my C. alba, but they both have grown out of it fine and had a new spear started by early March when they experienced another 27° freeze which didn't faze them.

You have a nice collection of palms and cycads started!   Keep us posted every year as they grow.   I've not had much luck with cycads other than panzis over the years.   I am over in Siler City...I moved away from the madness in Apex.   I had to leave a dozens of mature trachys there when I left.  :-(   What part of Raleigh are you in?
