RainForestt Robert
Can't say much about the names of the bromeliads, but I certainly do enjoy them. If you are going on the biennial this year in the Dominican Republic, the Jardin Botanico has an amazing collection of bromeliads. Will have to look on an old computer for those files. Visited Dominica (not the DR) earlier this year and visited a small hotel called Papillote that had a nice collection. Took some photos. Enjoy..... Trinidad! Southernmost island in the Caribbean. So many plants, So little space.

Al in Kona
Talking about the beautiful flower of the Blue Jade vine, here is a pic I recently took at the Kona garden of Garrett Webb, HIPS member. A rather unique color for a flower, which by the way, makes into a very beautiful lei Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean. No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!). Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil. Nice sunsets!
