Jeff was gracious to welcome him to his amazing garden today. I spent a couple of hours oo-ing at everything. Here are a few shots i took.

First, a wonderful chambeyronia welcomed you as you walked through the gate. Red frond and all! Euterpe edulis towers behind it. (And one of a dozen or more ficus dammaropsis!)

Josue, It was good to meet you. And thanks for the kind words ...and  taking the f. Roxburgii off my hands.

Sorry if the landscape in my tiny 4000 sq ft lot is a little cluttered... the aches and pains of getting older has me a bit lazy and i havent been doing much yard work.

I was surprized to see my seedling starfruit .... fruiting.... its been neglected for a while.

Come by anytime your in the area.

Looks like this dypsis decipiens is gonna have to be removed soon as the trunk is getting close to my rain gutter. I guess I have two options, go to home depot and hire a dude out in the parking lot to come cut in down.... or offer it to an IPS member with palm transplanting skills.... anyone interested, IM me.

Someone should get on this quick. It's an opportunity that won't come twice. whoever ends up with this beauty is a lucky guy/gal

This palm is so unique, i wouldn't give it away. There must be another solution from the gutter or maybe force it to lean?

Salut ;)

Third Option: wait until Spring, dig a trench around it - like you were going to move it - then hook up a "come along" (maybe to a car/truck and 2/3 - 3/4 of the way up the trunk) and try to slowly crank it over a foot or two - root ball and all. Then fill it back in.

If it worked, you may end up with the first DD with a "coconut-looking" curved trunk after it grew a few more years.

Dean has a great idea . Maybe use a chain come along and anchor it to something solid slowly trench it every once in a while tighten the come along pulling it away from the roof

Posted

Doesn’t sound like DD like to be transplanted.  Read up on past attempts that were unsuccessful.

Can you just take a section of rain gutter out and put in to end pieces?  That will give you about five more inches of clearance from the roof.

I’ve thought about the come along idea as well as the custom raingutter .

i live in an hoa so that severely limits any changes especially to my structure.

id rather an ips member take it but I may just have to have my gardener remove it.

Unfortunately, transplant success rate seems very low.  Good luck to whoever takes it on.

Jeff, If you do plan to move it, I wonder what the costs would be? I might be willing to take it on if it’s not crazy expensive. Considering the success rate might be low

Sorry for reviving yet another ancient topic but I just can't help wondering, in a 9B area away from the coast, what protects the foliage of this DD from ice?
