Yikes.   My irrigation system is saying 34f for me.  But I but that number is higher than the actual in all likelihood.  Sure wish I would have put out fans last night to keep the air moving in the cold spots in the yard.

Just some extension cords out to box fans.  But didn't get it set up in time.  It really helped me last year.

An interesting morning.. Closest neighborhood Wx station reading was 31f when I checked around 5:30am. Briefly dropped to 28f two hours later, now back above 34f. Lowest readings i noticed across other weather stations within a roughly 5 mile radius of the house ranged between 26-34f at 7: 30am

Even though we crossed 32f for at least 4 hours, couldnt find frost anywhere, let alone in the usual cold/ shady spots around the yard this time of year.  No appreciable damage to stuff I left out/ fully exposed.

One more somewhat cold night ( 34-37f predicted, depending on forecast source) then back to 40s/70s.. 75f likely Christmas day.

I strung a halogen light out to D. lamarkianum when i heard it would be cold..

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Kinda north of the Mission Josh, along the San Luis Rey river. The cold just snakes it's way toward the ocean right past ol' Bill's house who just happens to be up on the hill. I really don't worry unless it's gonna be a sustained cold snap, then the plastic sections go up. To this day I still gauge the freeze warnings by the experience we had in January of '07.

Gonzer,

Are your night time lows back into the 40's yet?

Yes they are Jim, just barely. Right now (2:48 am) it's 43.8. By sunrise it'll be in the upper 30's. BTW, I've always been an early riser and these hours tell a lot about what to expect. As Chris mentions also, bananas are the best litmus-test plant for freeze I've experienced. They'll be the first to tell ya that you'd better start covering things. Ooops! My bad. It's 44.0 now.

I actually didn't get one from you but one day I would like to get one. Just can't afford it at the moment. Bananas are usually the first to show damage but they always grow in fast. The good news is most palms did well.

Cheers man! Maybe one day I can give it a try but not willing to try just yet. Such a cool looking plant but rare and expensive.

Honestly I was surprised how cold it wad here. Next night was ten degree warmer but it was enough to damage. Really the damage wasn't bad. I'll post pictures soon after it really sets in haha.
