This morning I was driving to school, and the temp was 75F. At 7:45 AM.

A cooler than average start to the morning today with 61.7F. Dry, sunny, and mild. Very nice, but could still use LOTS more rain. The long range forecast does predict some higher % chance of rain the next 7 days, but we'll see if it holds out or not.

Last week was unseasonably cool with low humidity: 7F cooler days, 10F cooler nights!  This week is totally different, more seasonable temperatures, but the rain and humidity are back with a vengance.  We're almost 6" ahead of normal precip., and 10" ahead of last year.

Tonight will be our third freezing night of the year. Last night it snowed in Santa Catarina. This morning temperature dropped to 2`C with a thin layer of ice on the car, grass. Some of my more tender palm seedlings I protected with big bags.

Were it snowed (São Joaquim) the altitude is 1400m. Very fresh the hole year, and very frosty in the winter.

The rest of Santa Catarinas tableland has a similar climate to here.

May has been pretty useless here, especially compared with the hottest April on record the month before.  This weekend I went camping with my kids, as part of the scouts centenary camp and they had to abandon the camp at 10pm on Sunday night, due to high winds and driving rain.  The temperature on Sunday did not get above 9°C/48°F all day.  This morning, when I left work there was a frost on my car, although the air temperature was actually 2.5°C/36.5°F.  Everything outside in my garden that was showing signs of waking up in April is now totally dormant again.  All this while much of Europe has been going through a heatwave with 30°C/86°F plus temperatures.

Roll on June.

Corey - I take a slightly different view!

It has poured down here and the garden and palms have sure enjoyed.

I got real high N on the ground and tried to water it in but of course the prolonged rain did the job far better than I ever could.

Here it has been a drought until the last week or so.

Maybe its catch up time for our soils?

We have got good growing weather the last couple day's with tempeture's almost every day between the 18-22C/64.4-71.6F ... but from today we go more up en the next couple day's we got tempeture between the 20-25C/68-77F... next saturday they say for my place maybe the 26C/78.8F that means for the garden 27C/80.6F or maybe the 28C/82.4F ...

The night tempeture's the whole last month and also the next couple day's are almost every night between the 9-14C/48.2-57.2F .... May was wet en nicely warm, a real spring month but he was just like every month warmer als normal....

So June is getting on the calender ... give me now every day around the 25C/77F and some rain in the night and then in July,August/September extreme heat above the 30C/86F ;)  :P  :D

The month ended like it started : uneventful [aka boring  :(

No Rain No Wind No Nothing but morning clouds/hazy sunshine.  Some mornings start out clear before the marine layer finally moves up into the hills.  May was cooler than normal but not by much. Ocean temps have been colder than normal up until a week ago.  Explains the sometimes chilly nights.

La Nina-like conditions translate in near persistent troughs/clouds along the West coast that suppress ocean/air temps.  Makes for less air conditioning inland  :D but little sun at the beach :(

Here is the May 2007 summary for my place.   Average temps were pretty close to the long term averages, but it was obviously a very dry month.  The humidity was also very low for much of the month, at one point dropping down to 19%!  We also had one very cool morning for May that I believe almost set a record.

Really admire your weather set-up, Larry  :P May I ask how much it costs?

Interesting that the extremes for the month in Tarpon Springs were nearly identical to Los Angeles.  But the average values were much different.  May is comfortably warm in Florida/Texas & comfortably cool in California.  We stay suspended in a long spring of slow plant growth  :(

May was another unusual month in the UK.  It was the second wettest May on record using the data series from 1914.  The only wetter May was recorded in 1979.  Sunshine levels were below average, which is to be expected with the amount of rain we had, but temperatures were about 1°C/1.8°F above average, which is unusual with the lack of sun.  On the 28th of May the maximum daytime temperature only reached 7.9°C/46.22°F at Heathrow (London), which is the second lowest daytime maximum in May using the same data series from 1914.  The only lower maximum temperature was recorded on May 1st 1949 (7.7°C/45.86°F) and considering the end of May is usually a fair bit warmer than the beginning, it really was an extraordinary day.
