This is one of my first palm I bought last year...almost 8-9 month ago and from then it was trying to open a new spear but still hasn't happened !!!

I heard that Howea forsteriana are slow but is that normal or something wrong with it? anyone growing this in pot?

Here for comparison photos of potted Howea: #1 the same palm in 1972 and 1977; #2 palm in 2011 and #3 in 2013. — Maybe the site of your Howea could be too dark?

#1 — 1972+1977:

#2 — 2011 in 12 cm pot; #3 — 2013 in 28 cm pot:

Thanks Pal and Konstantinos...the room is not dark , not direct sun and the same room for my other palms...actually I have another one on deck and show not much of growth either ? also Howaes is one of the most common palm in our area i so our climate should be suitable , something else must be wrong  :(

A potted Howea should, as a houseplant, be able to grow two to three leafs a year. A light position and a moist medium should do the trick! I grow them in the house as hydroplants and they do very well.

Regards,

Wim.

Did you repot it when you bought it? What  does the soil medium consist of?

Here is the double at our store:

Hi Mohsen

They need to be outdoors in the ground then they will speed up a lot ( water often use compost )  and Sydney has the perfect climate to grow Howea forsteriana to perfection and on my many visits i have seen many examples throughout the older parts of the city. Plant yours in the ground water well and spread around some compost and mulch and it will grow into a thing of beauty  ! :greenthumb:

My biggest one was was the same size as yours in 1999 and now has a huge trunk and easily makes 4 - 5 fronds a year in Chilly Hobart ! Here is my biggest one.

Thanks Troy , do they tolerate full sun?

comparing with " Howea forsteriana " , "Hedyscepe" and " Rhopalostylis chatham " , which one growing faster?

Yes they tolerate full sun after some minor sunburn.  A happy Howea is probably faster than both Hedyscepe and Rhopalostylis Chatham
