Yep - my front yard is mulched, very few weeds.  Back can't really be mulched because of steep slopes, and that's where I have to spray.  I'd prefer not to use glyophosate, but there's really no way around it when an absolute carpet of weeds pops up this time of year.

I agree, chemicals are bad but necessary in our cases.

Last night?  Really?  We're back up to the high-30s here.  But, the next week or so looks cool/cold.  Definitely stuck in a cold, dry pattern.

Inland San Diego is just getting slammed with cold air. It makes no sense to me. I was 39F at my house in carlsbad and the WU station down the street hit 31.6F

Its only short duration but still make the gut bubble..hahahaha

Wow. A seven and a half degree difference down the street means that either you have a great microclimate or else the guy down the street is in a cold sink.....or his WU thermometer is just plain off.

We had at least 84 fahrenheit today.  No cold yet this winter. I pity you guys out west getting slammed.

NachoCarl a fellow palm talker and friend joined in on the action as well. The sun was shining and the weather was perfect for a fun little PRA.

Theirs Nothing like having fun spending the day with fellow palmaddicts..

Josh, you definitely have some nice specimens out there, no doubt about it.  I'm warming up to Copernicia but man are they expensive.  I know the Florida guys must think we're insane out here but I will plant a few Lord Howe and New Zealand things around the property just because I can.  Hmmm.....cycads or Copernicia?

I vote cycads, they grow faster!  :D  I have yet to come around to Copernicia.

Josh, you have an amazing place in development there.  I am so glad I made the trip, so now I can see how it develops over the years.  Again I thank you for being so giving of your time, it was great to spend a few hours there and with you guys.  And, Carl, it was great to meet you too!

I have recently planted a couple oddball but hard to find syagrus species in the garden. These have been on my wish list for a long time so it's nice to have finally have them in the ground.

I have never even heard of these, Josh!  I will need to look these up.

I am pretty psyched as I have a new Syagrus hybrid seedling just coming up - Syagrus x Campos-Portoana.  Hopefully some more of those pop!

Done.  I currently only have the one coming up, but will let you know if more pop/make it out of the community pot.  I think Alberto in Brazil did this cross, but not 100% on that.

  • 2 weeks later...

The time has finally come....YIPEEEEE!

The deal has been stamped and sealed with the concrete contractor. (no puns intended..lol)

We are making last minute preparations before the concrete pathways are going to be poured very soon.

I decide to go with a color concrete that will have a heavy brushed finished.

A big shout out to Dennis Willoughby who has put in almost 100 voluntary hours at the garden/ nursery this past few months to make this pathway project possible.
