Severe Thunderstorm in Spring Valley, CA

Recommended Posts

I've never seen anything like this in SoCal. We got 1/2" of rain in 10 minutes and 50 mph winds.

When was this? It's raining in California? Still freaking hot and not a hint of a breeze here.

It was just an isolated severe thunder storm that formed out of nowhere and we were in the dead center of it on the radar. National Weather Service put out an alert 10 minutes after it hit us. Thanks!

We actually had to call our insurance agent because we've got some car port damage and electrical/phone/cable from a huge tree that partially broke apart.

That was insane.

I've had rain like that but never in September, on a blistering expletive of a day.

Bet the humidity will be sticky.

I could see the clouds all the way to the IE. MASSIVE.

Hope you're all okay down there.

I would have loved to been down there to experience that sudden storm. We're expecting our first of the season cold front with rain Wednesday night into Thursday. I hope it's a good sign that the rainy season is spooling up.

this ended up being a real big deal.

thousands without power and millions of dollars in damage including small planes being tossed around and destroyed.

trees down all around san diego county some falling thru industrial buildings and a highway system that came to a stand still with large trees in the highways

looks like its going to be called the most severe storm in half a century - huge convective thunderstorms with devastating straight line winds

Since we are discussing palm trees worldwide, someone should mention a palm..... certainly looks like those syagrus are copping a beating! From memory those are syagrus sp. Abreojos??

Any palm damage from that? It's the sort of weather that we will have here in the next 2-4 months.... Hopefully!

It looks like that here once a week in the rainy season. My friend is a fishing guide and he had to wait out a storm huddled in the mangroves in a kayak by himself with hundreds of bolts of lighting and thunder all around, just last wednsday. He said " wasnt the first wont be the last" and then laughed about it. I live in the thunder capital of the world by the way.

As long as embers don't fly anywhere, no big deal.

But they always do.

The palms will be fine.

I think those were in Pacific Beach. Washies can handle fire, but those were caused by lightning. Curious to see how they handle that.

The Abreojos growing points actually got bent. They are almost back to normal this morning, but still about 3' off.

Here's a video from the shopping center by my house. 70-80 foot tall Poplars and Pine trees blown over onto cars and buildings. I don't think anyone got hurt thankfully.

Like Ohio in 1993, that really hurts.

No one was prepared for it, either.
