Thanks. I did try 250 rainbow trout in there. The cormorants came and they were no more. The water temp was too high for them anyway. I had Venturi systems in there to add oxygen, but the water comes off peat and is a tea colour. It absorbs sunlight really well. So the top part is as warm as a bath but underneath it’s much colder. It would probably be ideal for Murray Cod or Silver Perch, but it flows into the local rivers and it is highly illegal to keep those species where they can escape and thrive in the local river systems. I don’t think you can get Murray Cod here anyway.

Ive made some new billabongs on the other side of the house for drainage purposes with raised beds around them, that will be fully planted up in time. My plan is to get some local Pygmy perch in there. Not big enough to eat as they only grow to about 7cm long but they are cute.

That sounds like a good plan.

My largest Chatham Island nikau lighting up in the sun coming through a break in the canopy. It looked better in reality though. It caught my eye today.

The Chatham Island Nikau in the above picture was planted out in 2015 as a small palm only around 50cm tall. Now it is taller than me and about 2.5m tall. I think I germinated it in 2011 while still in Perth. So if the information is correct that Rhopalostylis flower at about 15 years of age I'm expecting it to flower around 2026 in about 3 to 4 years from now. I reckon it will have the start of a clear ringed trunk by then at least. I just love Rhopalostylis.

Wow! That is a beautiful garden you’ve grown there. The chirping birds don't hurt the ambiance a bit either.

They were planted around 6 and a bit years ago at the end of 2017. They were in 5L pots. I grew them from Perth seed.
