A serious website (featured in a Science magazine news story) by a group of amateur storm observers. Their report on the supertyphoon that wrecked the area around Tacloban City and vicinity in Leyte, the Philippines uses a coconut palm damage index, developed partly because the palms were abundant in the area, and assessing local damage was relatively easy. icyclone: hardcore hurricane chasing
