Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

That's my friend and neighbor, Barbara, waiting in line in the first photo. In photo #3, that's my bro Alan, looking very skeptical of MattyB. Bob should have removed his sweatshirt for the photos, he always has the coolest shirts!

I would like to build a dome like that over my entire back yard so I could grow Cyrtostachys renda and Johannesteijsmannia altifrons too!

indeed it is "caryota-esque",but if you look closely you can see that it is armed,so it is could be a calamus or even plectomia spp.i noticed they had a lot of climbers

that were running up the large steel supports.

I wonder where they got such large palms of rather rare palms fo so cal. I've seen some really nice Areca ipots at Rancho Soledad but none that big!! You think they shipped in alot of stuff from florida or what? This place has alot of speciman size palms http://southeastgrowers.com

You took some great pictures. It looks like it was fun, if only I could of made it. I liked the shot of the fruit on the Areca ipot palm. Just makes want you to stick your hand through and grab some seeds. Thanks, I really enjoyed them.

they seemed to be in more than 1 stage of development,which made for a more colorful photo.

Yea thats the one. I know very little about palms but I recognised the 'leaflets' as being rather caryota-esque

Great shots. Thank you. Good to see you brought Bob along. The one crummy thing about being on the Board for the PSSC is that it's always like this: BOD Meeting, General Meeting, and then home. We never get to see the cool plants. We're stuck in a room somewhere.

I know Rancho Soledad shipped in some of the tropical stuff from Hawaii.
