Exotic Thai Food...a great experience!

Jeff Searle

Early one morning, ( approx. 6:00am) Andrea, Rob and myself decided to catch the train and go have a look at the local early morning market. What a great experience it was.

Later that morning, we got to try some out.....

Andrea tasting the street food.

Sampling the fruit.

Now with a full stomach.

And then the local toilet was needed quite often. Bringing your OWN toilet paper is a MUST!!!

Fresh frogs( alive and kicking ) bagged up, ready to go.

Lots of them....

Place your order and then they end up here.......

We were so lucky, we actually saw the butcher himself in action.

Neatly trimmed up and ready to select. Yummy!

Fascinating actually I wish Andrew Zimmerman was there to guide us through... :)

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Wow, Jeff, incredible photos!

Nancy, Ken and I got caught in the major monsoon the day after the tour ended. We dodged giant downspout waterfalls and snuck into narrow alleys, getting the fresh whiff of what must be the beginnings of Thai fish sauce....

We were stuck in a cab for over 3.5 hours, as the rains closed down many lanes. Good thing I had good company!

Mahalo everyone for sharing the local street food photos - as usual MattyB posted some funny comments about those photos - I did not eat anything from the local street vendors, but came to love Thai food after eating it in restaurants every day during the Southern Thailand Pretour and at the Biennial

We have a lot of Thai restaurants in the Kona area so we were already Thai food addicts even before going to Thailand. The variety in Thailand is much greater naturally but there's quite a choice locally too. Love Thai food!

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
