PalmatierMeg
My husband drinks Simply Lemonade (or homemade during citrus season)daily. He hasn't had a kidney stone recurrence since he started his daily regimen. Cranberry capsules may also help you. Jerry@TreeZoo
Cranberry and Lemonade are good and reasonable preventative measures, but once you have a stone to pass, they do nothing and might tax your kidneys more. Once you have a stone, drink copious water, nothing else. So many species, so little time. MattyB
Jen has an 8mm stone. We were in the ER all night last night. The pain was so intense she was throwing up all day and became extremely dehydrated. I was not pretty. She's all doped up now. Hopefully the urologist can see her tomorrow. They wasted the entire day waiting for a referral to com her general doctor who doesn't have anything to do or even know about this problem. they wouldn't take the referral from the ER doctor such BS Matt Bradford "Manambe Lavaka" Spring Valley, CA (8.5 miles inland from San Diego Bay) 10B on the hill (635 ft. elevation) 9B in the canyon (520 ft. elevation)

One tip I got on here was drink lots of beer. Numbs the pain and flushes it out. Get her some miller 64 so she can drink a ton without getting plastered. Hope she feels better soon. Jerry@TreeZoo
8MM is a VERY big stone. That has got to hurt. In the ER, they gave me dilaudid, and that works very well. They sent me home with an Oxycodone and flomax scrip, along with 800mg ibuprofen, cipro for infection and an anti nausea med. I have never been stabbed, so I can't compare that pain. I would say it feels like my testicles were shoved up to my lower back and put in a pair of vice grips. So many species, so little time. Philpalm
In the Philippines we use fresh coconut juice which helps pass the stones through fast. I was just thinking that a coconut palm could have helped you Steve? I had a nasty stone many years ago back in Australia but had no coconuts to use (shame). Anyway glad to hear that you passed it and are ok. Kind regards. Jerry.

DoomsDave
Matt: OUCH, hoping the pain will stop soon for both of you. DavidMac
I agree with DoomsDave-breaking it up is certainly what I would want -I wonder if your doctor thinks that you might be a good canidate for Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)? Kim
What an awful experience. I think they use some kind of ultrasound to break up a large stone. I hope relief is on the way immediately. schatzle78
Do you know if the stone was diagnosed with x-rays or ultrasound or both? Ultrasound is certainly an important test to have done in this situation to assure that the stone is not obstructing urine flow from the kidney to the ureter (the tube from the kidney to the bladder). If the stone is partially or completely obstructing the flow of urine from the kidney, this can not only be very painful, but can cause damage to the kidney itself. Did they do any bloodwork to look at her kidney values? If the stone is causing a partial or complete obstruction, the urologist will likely pass a stent (small tube) into the kidney to relieve the obstruction and promote normal urine flow. This is not a permanent solution but is meant to protect the kidney and relieve pain until the stone can be addressed further. As she is unable to pass the stone on her own, the best solution to address the stone will likely be lithotripsy, where sound waves are used the break the stone into smaller pieces which can then be passed naturally. I hope that helps. Good luck to you both. Mike San Diego, CA ~5 miles from the ocean

PalmatierMeg
Hope she is feeling better and can hang on till Wed. My husband had his latest stone blasted to sand at the VA hospital in St. Petersburg last Dec. Our niece went along to drive us home as I'm no longer able to drive. Operating room staff sedated him with morphine but the recovery room staff released him too soon. He ended up having a seizure in his wheelchair on the way out and all of us spent an extra 3 hours in the emergency room. Best place to have a seizure is 20 feet from emergency. And a couple of women shouting, "Somebody help us!" brings techs and nurses running. 1 Meg Palms of Victory I shall wear Cape Coral (It's Just Paradise) Florida Zone 10A on the Isabelle Canal Elevation: 15 feetI'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade. DoomsDave
Matt, you have a right to be pissed, to coin a phrase. If you have one of those HMO health plans that hates to prescribe specialists, maybe dump them and go to a regular health PPO plan if you can. This hurts to read! Hope Jen feels better! Kris
Very sad to hear its very difficult to get a doctor's appointment in time. Here in india many elders consume water from tender coconut, barley water i.e barley grains are boiled with water, then the water alone is extracted from the cooked grains using a filter. Now the water is used to drink whenever one feels thirsty. And people who have crossed 40 years and above avoid taking in hot spicy food with salt regularly. Even water melon juice is very beneficial. And also avoid food items prepared by using tomatos. And by the way alcohol beverages & beer want help much in this cure. love conquers all.. . Dear Meg, Here in india health care is govt subsidized. And though we are very populous country we do not find it difficult to get appointment to a doctor. And iam surprised to see how health care is not upto the mark in developed countries. Here when a person is operated they are admitted for about 2 to 3 days depending on the patients health condition & age.Only when the chief doctor signs in out patient challan the patient is allowed to leave for this home. Last year my father under went eye surgery for removing cataract, the method used was laser treatment called lassic micro hole surgery. where the lensof the eye was replaced with artificial lens.though the operation lasted for 40 minutes,he was discharged from the eye hospital only the following day since he was heart patient, has high B.P and even sugar complaint so they kept him under observation.By the way the operation was done only for one eye. After a month he under went the same procedure for the other eye. Though india is democratic country, the pattern is socialistic one as seen in france,So health care & health related products(medicines) are cheap and effective compared to the developed world. Love, kris. love conquers all.. .
