Bromeliad Show/Sale at Terry Park, Ft Myers, 12-11

I went to my third annual Bromeliad Show and Sale on 12/3/11 at Terry Park in Fort Myers. First thing, I dashed to the sale tent to scarf up plants. My current broms of choice are terrestrials like Cryptanthus, Dyckia, Hechtia et. al. After I blew my budget and loaded my scores, I headed over to the show to see the plants there. Kim requested lots of photos, so I complied. I downloaded so many I will have to post them in batches.

Here are views of the outdoor sale. Lots of goodies.

I spy lots of fabulous bromeliads in those photos! Okay, have to wipe the drool off my lips. There is at least one plant in each photo that I have to have! So many jewels... :mrlooney: Thanks for the photos, Meg. :)

Hi Kim, there's more to come.

After the spending my bankroll, I, my poor husband and my trusty Samsung crashed the show. I didn't have means to list every genus or species of broms but trust me, they were all beautiful. I took so many photos I lost count. I'm posting them as I come across them.

Overall views of the show:

Kim,

Your are on the Big Island...You CAN get anyone you want...

Joe, I believe the importation of bromeliads into Hawaii is severely restricted due to fear of "contaminating" the pineapple industry. Kim?

This thread is awesome.. Thanks Meg!

Now to take the time to look closely at all of them!!!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

There are lots of fantastic bromeliads available in Hawaii -- Shiigi and Vinzant are locals, among others -- but I've no idea about bromeliad importation, though Hawaii restricts a lot of agricultural imports, so that would not surprise me. I have barely scratched the surface of what's available on the island, giving in to the impulse to buy cheap, pretty vrieseas, colorful guzmanias, and hybrid alcantareas from the "bromeliad truck" and the farmers markets. If I were to put my mind to it, I could probably find much of what Meg's photos show. It would also help if I could spend more time there...:)

Meg, you've been very generous with your time and photos, thanks so much! Beautiful!

Kim understood what I was saying...Greg, they don't need to be imported to Hawaii, there is a good chance between all the bromeliad hybridizers/collectors that they are already there.
