I've had one in a pot out front for a while, while the leaves did burn at the 28F I had a few days, its still growing fine.  (they are slow though)

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

My experience with these having 8 in ground is they are slow, taking over 10 years to have leaves big enough to poke you in the face. My largest is in almost full shade but illuminated to the south by the gap in my garden where the house is. Temperatures down to -4C have not damaged the specimens down in the frosty zone but are located beside a small stream with a high canopy of rainforest trees but no shrubs beneath. I also think they like better drainage than I thought, as two I recently planted from 300mm pots arent liking the seasonal bog in the Licuala garden.
