A cold front is bringing us another wave of moisture this morning.

Since 6am (it's now 10:20am) we've already got .40"

As long as it's a little, I suppose. It would be nice to have a few weeks between storms at this point.

Before I left for work I checked my rain gauge and had nearly an inch. This is one of the wettest months on record for southern California and in certain areas people are nervously watching the hills for more mudslides. But the concern may not be the rain but rather the wind later today. Wind gusts up to 60mph could easily dislodge trees in the saturated soil. A big eucalyptus came down a few days ago blocking one of the narrow roads in my neighborhood; we could see more of that type of damage. Also the airmass is extremely cold behind the front. The wind may save us from frost but the wind chills are going to be the coldest this winter!

I've had 11.9" for December!

I was up at 'Top of the World' in Laguna this morning and could see three slides from the deck of the house with the arrow.

There are a lot of people around here holding their breath.

Geez, the whole place looks like a giant slide.

Matt,

Surprisingly no. Even my fill dirt road is holding up really well. It has a nice carpet of grass and weeds on it that I dare not spray. The water runs right over the layed down grass. I've graded, dug channels, and installed drains to direct the water off into the canyon so it seems to be working so far. I learned the first Winter when I had a 6' deep chasm that I have to be aware of where the water wants to run during heavy rains, and to make sure and allow for that to happen safely.
