Scam e-mails

Even here there are African scam e-mails .  We're not even safe  on Palm talk.  I just received this appeal in my inbox.  Can we do something about this?

          APPEAL FOR BUSINESS ASSISTANCE.

Dear ,

Permit me to inform you of my desire of going into business relationship with you. I got your name and contact from our country chambers of industry (internet department). I prayed over it and selected your name among other names due to its esteeming nature and the recommendations given

to me as a reputable and trust worthy person that

I can do business with and by the recommendation ,

I must not hesitate to confide in you for this simple

and sincere business .

I am jacob david only son of late Mr. and Mrs. david Morgan . My father was a very wealthy cocoa merchant in Abidjan , the economic capital of Ivory coast, my father was poisoned to death by his business associates on one of their outings on a business trip .

My mother died when I was a baby and since then my father took me so special. Before the death of my father on october 2005 in a private hospital here in Abidjan he secretly called me on his bed side and told me that he has the sum of Six million,five  hundred thousand United State Dollars. USD ($6,500,000.00) left in fixed / suspense account in one of the prime bank here in Abidjan ,that he used my name as his only son for the next of Kin in depositing of the fund. He also explained to me that it was because of this wealth that he was poisoned by his business associates. That I should seek for a foreign partner in a country of my choice where i will transfer this money and use it for investment purpose.

Dear, I am honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways:

(1) To provide a bank account into which this money

would be transferred to.

(2) To serve as a guardian of this fund.

(3) To make arrangement for me to come over to your

country to further my education and to secure a

resident permit in your country.

Moreover, I am willing to offer you 15%

of the total sum as compensation for your effort/

input after the successful transfer of this fund into

your nominated account overseas.

Furthermore, you indicate your options towards assisting me as I believe that this transaction would be concluded within fourteen (14) days you signify interest to assist me. Anticipating to hear from you soon.

OOOHHH what sad! I received the same E-mail and it´s not true!!! I thought it was true that he selected my name among other names due to its esteeming nature and the recommendations given ... :D  ha!ha! hah!!!!

  Even on palmtalk we arent free of this. On the oldest format of palm talk this was very common! The person who send this,is he a ´´registrated member´´?

I can't believe you guys are passing on this deal.   Its not every day someone offers 15% of $6,500,000 to help him out.    If I wasn't so busy with the 2 other guys I'm helping out from the Ivory Coast (for 20% of $10,000,000) I'd help this guy too.   Oh well, got to get to the bank and wire some some money to my new friends on the Ivory Coast.

Sounds OK to me also. My brother did a similar deal a couple of years ago with a Nigerian fellow. I think his take was about 2.5 million. I'm waiting for myself to get lucky.

I got nearly 70 million from another esteemed and worthy well represented former member of the recently deposed and ousted leadership of a small country kindly embezeled by the grandfather of said esteemed fellow who was desperately seeking a  way to spirit said funds far from the grasping hands of the new regime.

Unfortunately, it was in Enron stock and interestingly patterned grains of sand ( which I have YET to receive!)  The Enron stock cost me 25.00 to sell.

This is such a stupid e-mail scam.  Where is the porn?  

Who believes this crap?  Oh, wait, everyone with a dream will at least imagine a payoff, I would bet, but who would plant the seed money (eaten by rodents!) for such a money tree to grow?  Not me, not you, maybe Ken Lay?

A recent TV program, forgot which one, but 20-20, 60 minutes or one of those, recently interviewed a few people who were gullible enough to fall for this ridiculous scam. They also went along with one of the scams and met the crook who was behind it, and actually confronted him.

Yeah, I think that I saw the same show Bo.  They showed a bunch of young men just sitting at computers writting scam emails to people to try and get a bite.

I'm a cynical [fill in the expletive].  I'm a lawyer who, in many cases, represents people who've been scammed.  

In many cases by generally legit investment bankers and the like.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.  If you've got a question, go ahead and PM me, but if it sounds too good to be trust me -- it is.

Go ahead and reply but require that they send no less than 50% commission up front.  That will end your problem, no response will come.

If it does, you'll be millions richer!

Or you can forward it to the Secret Service, who has a project working on this.
