John in Andalucia
I spoke to Invision Board recently, the company that provides the forum software for PalmTalk, regarding the log in problems of those on dynamic IP addresses. From browsing the Internet, it is clear to see that the login/session problems are a result of the "stronghold cookie" setting on the Admin side of the board. This feature was originally intended to be optional, but as security breaches in the software become more widespread, even Invision themselves recommended to keep it activated at all costs. It become a security "patch" in other words, for their outdated software. But now, the latest version of the forum software is available, and has been for several months: http://www.invisionpower.com/products/board/ Anyone can sign up and try the demo of version 3.0. It would be a great way for users here to familiarize themselves with the new features so that when it happens, some of us will be able to help those who are not as computer-literate. I'm plugging the upgrade idea now, because the new software has already been out 6 months, and I think we really need to have the best software available as a leading community in a specialized field. Furthermore, and this is direct from Invision Board: "The stronghold cookie has been removed from 3.0 in favour of less obtrusive security. Those on dynamic IP addresses won't have the same issue they do currently." So you see, they were fully aware of the problems that users here, and on other Invision Board forums have been reporting. I think it would be a great idea to go into 2010 on the latest software, so how about it?

I am so fed up with trying to get in that I dont have have the will to do it any more and I know that many many people feel the same. What is the point of having a forum that is inaccessible for large parts of the day ? Resident in Bristol UK. Pivi
John, I salute you for your effort. "Stronghold cookie" is the problem and if new version will solve the problems then i guess it's a way to go. I personally can find a way around the problem, but i guess there are lot's of other users that cannot and they will simply quit trying, therefore not participate on this forum. island Vis, adriatic sea, Croatia.
