Brenda,

If I remember right, Ralph had planted those roughly 15 years ago or so. He planted them in the "city" median at the end of the cul-de-sac.  I do remember him saying that neither neighbors hose was long enough to water the one in the middle so he watered via bucket for the first several years.  He said he finally got tired of watering it so he stopped and has grown to what you see today.

Glad some of you folks who missed this the first time around are enjoying it!

Ralph certainly has a very nice collection of palms, and I hope that I can visit someday in the near future, but, am I looking at this picture wrong or what? Why would someone plant a palm what looks like only inches away from a large palm for? If so, do you really expect to have a nice looking( quality) palm in a few years? ???

Jeff,  I zoomed in and found the small palm next to the Roystonea is a Chamby Houliou.   I think Ralph decided years ago its not a soil space problem as much as it is a Sun problem.  At least to keep them alive.  Poor Ralph is VERY short on room to allow palms to reach "full" size. Keep in mind what you see in those "faraway shots" is basically fitting on a 60'x100' lot! House too!!!

I think I can find a few more OK pics I didn't post yet...to follow...

Jeff,

Yes, Bill is certainly correct about Ralph's lack of space. If you ever visit Ralph (and it's definitely an experience) you'll understand. Ralph ran out of space a LONG LONG time ago, so after he planted palms in all the possible places, the only thing he can do now is to plant palms in all the impossible places!
