Australia II - Livistonas

Recommended Posts

I wanted to see as many Livistona as possible in Australia, and we saw some gems. I have a few to start with, and I'll try to get the NT Livistonas posted tomorrow.

Here's some L australis near Colin's place

Some old ones in a cleared field. I guess the wood was too tough for the chainsaws in the good 'ol days

Come on Jack, you're letting the Hawaians get ahead of you, remember you got palms in habitat to challenge them. By the way, how's Lindsey, and how's the injury ?

nuff of this small talk, show me the money !!! :yay:

I know this is taking me f-ing forever, sorry! I promise the NT Livistonas will be worth the wait. Tonight will be Livistona humilis, which is the first palm we saw up there. There were TONS, from just south of Darwin to just south of Litchfield maybe 100 km down the road.

Lot's of 'em were burned. I didn't really like the charred look, but I know it's a natural part of the habitat up here.

Wal - Lindsey's great, my thumb is actually broken (the ER doctors missed the break, so I was moving it around for 2 weeks wondering why it still hurt so much...). How are things in Manly (aka Wally world)

Why do they look familiar?? Hold on, I live there... lol :mrlooney: . I guess we see them every day so we don't appreciate them as much. I am glad you enjoy the NT part of your trip, Jack. You need to come back as you haven't seen everything yet.....

Great shots, great palm the sandy humilis, a real experience seeing thousands of them.

Broken hey ? You're one tough guy now Jack, you'll be fine, having been in harsh unforgiving aussie outback and leechy NQ rainforest and putting up with a few raving ratpackers.

Don't hold back on the dialog now, we like the discerning word to accompany the photograph, don't we folks ? guys ? hello !

After seeing L humilis for maybe 150 km from Darwin south, we started driving through an area with no palms. Then, maybe 30 km north of Katherine we saw a single L inermis next to the road. We went to Katherine, then 30 km east to Nitmiluk park, and we saw another L. inermis in the parking lot. I was worried we might not see more, so I snapped a couple photos.
