The skyscape from the Basin looking towards the San Gabiels always look so majestic, Happ! I love that particular view. I've tried that same view but my photos never were THAT gorgeous!

Thanks for the "Winter Treat!" :winkie:

How often does it snow in the San Gabriels. Do they have any ski resorts in SoCal. Don't they have some out towards Big Bear or whatever it is called. (I am not geography smart on SoCal).

Big Bear is in the San Bernardino mountains about 2.5 hrs east of LA (or 2.5 hrs NE of San Diego). Yes, there is skiing at Big Bear at 2 resorts, Bear MTN and Snow Summit. The resorts are at the 6500 ft level. Mountain High is another resort a little closer to LA. I believe that is in the San Gabriel Mtn range. My kids love driving up the mountain and watching the temp drop mile by mile.

That water looks cold, does the Pacific ever get warm. When we go down to the beach in Corpus Christi in the summer or fall, it's like swimming in bath water, it's so warm.

Here's a long-shot photo & suggests that the mountains in the distance is Catalina Island instead of the Palos Verdes peninsula. Anyone know exactly? I believe this is the Point Dune area.

Jim, this part of the Pacific never feels like "bath water" how about polar plunge?

Thanks for the photos, Cristóbal. The snow melts quickly on lower slopes & why the first photos by Reid represent only a day or two opportunity to view the splendor.

hi happ,

yes i go many times, but theres no area to ski in san pedro martír and is like 5 hours in car. the real distance is not far but the road theres very long and dificult. san pedro martír is national park of méxico and has the only lake in baja california, laguna hanson altitud 1650 meters / 5500 feet

(yes theres a lake in the hot dry baja peninsula !)

heres a foto of this lake.

post-285-1235370736_thumb.jpg

i like to go to ski, to do this i must go to the mountains by los angeles. i like mount baldy for its close and also by wrigtwood but this is very far from tijuana.

the mountains by los angeles are beautiful in winter and summer ! if you go to los angeles visiting from some other part, go to them for some time. they are close and theres many roads to them.

I personally find it hard to imagine snow sticking and staying most of the winter down in So-cal. It seems like its to hot, to close to the coast, but they must make a lot of snow at night with those snow guns.

You're right, Palmy. Those photos show LA right after a particularly cold storm w/ snow levels before 4000'\ 1220mm & don't last beyond a day or two. Snow on Mt San Antonio [aka Mt Baldy] can be viewed much of winter. But winter rain makes the hillsides beautifully green. This photo is a more common scene of winter in LA:
