I love living in SW Florida! Thank God, my job takes me all over Lee and Charlotte County where I get to see great specimens of palms on a daily basis. Again, on the way to a job out on Captiva Island, I spot this Dictyosperma album var. conjugatum on the side of the road. I was not sure what it was and on the way back in, I stopped by Seabreeze palms and Derek helped me identify it. What an awesome looking palm. I have added this one to my short list. Not sure how easy they are to come by, so if anyone knows where I can can get some seedlings, let me know.

Thanks,

Patrick

That is a very attractive palm. I love Dictosperma album. Can't grow 'em here at all though and believe me, I've tried. If I could, I'd have them all over my landscape the way I have Archontophoenix. Is there a species of Dictosperma that doesn't need a lot of heat or is cool tolerant?

I bought several of these from Dale Holton and Mike Harris.

Check with them to see if they have any more.

I have one that is seeding, but 90% of the seeds fall off before they mature.

Nice find Patrick. Definitely a D. album conjugatum (meaning conjugated or "joined together" in reference to the reigns that stay connected to the edges of the fronds). IMO this is the prettiest hurricane palm. Fairchild has some furfuraceum which have a white crown, but lack the joined leaflets.

There are a couple HUGE hurricane palms on Sanibel too. A great substitute for the King Palm here...

I keep going back to your first post and the words. I love my home state, but you sure make So. Florida enticing, especially hearing from one of our own.

Have fun.

Justin, I agree. This is one good looking palm and definitely the most attractive of the Dictyosperma.

Keith, I do love my home state where all my family reside, but Florida has my heart. I tried moving back home and SW Florida just called me right back. Every day I wake up and drive to work, reminds me why I'm here.

Okie, thanks for the reference
