Summer In Bermuda

Palm Guy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Its officially summer here. Took some pictures of the same areas that were featured in the Winter in Bermuda thread as well as many new areas.

First photo tour is of Fort Hamilton that has a moat that was converted into a tropical jungle walk. Its very claustrophobic down there and next time I'll take someone with me. Nobody was in there so I didn't make it too far but I mustered up some courage to take a few pics. Howeas, Ptychospermas, Livistonas, Sabal Bermudanas, Raphis and Roystoneas are all palm species that have naturalized themselves down in the moat.

First we'll take a look at the upper grounds and a view of Hamilton Harbour... This fort used to protect the city from pirates, plunderers, invaders and whatever else!

Massive...Roystonea...not the largest I've seen here but quite a perddy specimen. Do you find these guys invasive in your home town? Here they sprout in marshland and under trees.

Great pictures, Mike. I was in Bermuda for a convention in late 80s, loved it. What a great place. But wish I'd paid more attention to the palms. Maybe I'll get back one day.

Thanks Meg. You should come back. Its changed a bit since. I'm working on getting more rare species available on the island so there might be some bigger and better things to see soon.
