And you thought mules were pricey

Just wanted to get off of Erik's thread, in response to Mandrew's comment________

And you thought mules were pricey

Jubea X Butia 1 gal tree pot = $45

Jubea X Syagrus 1 gal tree pot = $200

+ shipping from cal

Might find the JxB for cheaper but you're going to have a hard time finding the JxS from another source.

I don't have any hybrid palms, but they are all very nice! Even if some may have a little queen in them...

On second thought--Life's too short to be planting anything with queen palm in it! :D

So how much did the Butia X parajubaea go for? Anyone recall.

And how much should the Butia X Cocos go for?

I want to say 125 or 150 for a B X P seedling.

The Butia X Cocos, that's a tough one, since there's only a small handful, 250 maybe higher, I'm not sure.

Speaking of B x C, how is yours looking these days?

Matt in Temecula, CA

Hot and dry in the summer, cold with light frost in the winter. Halfway between the desert and ocean

The B X C I had in Washington died. The others in Florida are going pinnate. I will be back in Florida in a couple weeks and take photos of the others that were distributed around Florida. Here is a photo of one of them and he looks like he is doing a mighty fine job with it.

Seems to me that "big" seedlings are available of some of these for much better prices in Florida. But as you's note not many people here search them out. I think though some people grow them in nurseries and I think I remember seeing them at palm sales.

If a BxC could handle my winters, and if it looked very different from the rest of the coccosoid hybrids, and if it came with a DNA analysis proving that it was indeed a Coconut cross.......

Then I would try and make my own.

Tank, talk is cheap--just make one and if you have results over reasons, then we will all give you your props! :D

I do not know much about testing them. I assume we could bring one to the University and find out.

Only because this hybrid is the Sasquatch of the palm world.

So the moral to this story is if you see a B x C hybrid, SHOOT it dead so it doesn't get away and then donate it to science.
