After alot of years my Hedyscepes are showing rings, a very big accomplishment. They are slow growers but bulletproof growers in So Cal, and they never get "Leaning Hedyscepe Syndrome".

I have four of them in the photo, the one in the very back is in 3/4 day sun, very hot inland sun, it looks perfect but the leaves are a little shorter. The two in the front are in dappled light and are stunning. I have seen them in full sun on the coast and they look great, but dapple sun seems to be the best for these palms.

Gary- I'm always amazed at what grows so well at your place!!!!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Gary, I'm amazed those palms look so good at your place. I had always thought they would need a strong coastal influence to do that well. A good grower must trump that card. What a beautiful palm.

Thanks for the pics Gary!  Boy, those sure do look good.  I've actually held off on getting any Hedescepy until just recently.  I just thought they'd be KFC'd out here inland.  I'm glad I saw what yours look like.  I gotta get some more.

Gary, When I visited your garden the other day I was impressed by two things... no three. The speed of growth since I last saw your garden, Your OCWS! (Gotta take a second on the house and get me one), and your Hedy's breaking all the rules growing in full inland sun! I'm 5 miles from the beach and one of mine got KFC'D in 3/4 day sun. Your doing good things in your garden Gary and thanks again for the tour. I left green with envy. Steve

Urban Rainforest Palms,Cycads and Exotics. Were in San Diego Ca. about 5 miles from the beach on Tecolote canyon. It seems to be an ideal growing climate with moderate temps. and very little frost. Vacation Rental in Leilani Estates, big island Hi PM me if interested in staying there.
