Mau'i and O'ahu bound

Hollywood Palms

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm off to Mau'i and O'ahu for about 3 weeks next Thursday. I've been to the Foster and the Bishop gardens. Any suggestions on where to go? Retail nurseries or private gardens would be great.

Thanks!

David

The Kahanu Garden of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in the Hana area of Maui isn't palmy, but worth visiting.  http://www.ntbg.org/gardens/kahanu.html

They might possibly persuade you to go see their three gardens on Kaua'i.

David,

As far as I'm concerned, Lyon Arboretum (all the way at the upper end of Manoa Valley) and Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden on the windward side (Kaneohe) are the two best places on Oahu. Both are spectacular.

I don't think there are any specialty palm nurseries on Oahu OR Maui. For that you need to visit the Big Island (Floribunda Palms, Kapoho Palms, Palms of Paradise just to mention a few). And if you decide to visit the Big Island, let me know!
