pretty sure i picked up the seeds for these palms(i believe its 2 individuals) in the "palm canyon" area

of balboa park.looks kinda like a chamaedorea to me--any one else have an idea?

the "prince of snarkness."

Paul, you're right  it being a Chamaedorea. The yellow stripes on the petioles are a dead giveaway.  Now as to what species....hmmmmmm....can you post a pic of the leaves?  I'd guess C. tepijilote by where you got it and the pics you posted but the leaflets don't seem so droopy.  There's a large clump of C. sefreizii wide leaflets form (aka C. erumpens) there also.  I kinda think that might be it.  Are the leaflets sort of irregular and the fronds have a wide bifid terminal leaflet to them? If so, then I'm pretty sure that's it.  I'm sure someone else can give a more definitive answer..... :P calling Jay?  If you bait with emoticons he can't resist...... :o  ???  :;):

I'd agree Matty, Looks like tepejilote to me but a pic of the leaves would help.

i didn't get a very good pic of the leaves,but i'm gonna try again.they look a bit like ptychosperma leaves to me.

i will be happy if its c.tepejilote! thanks for the input!

Yup, it is c. tepejilote.  I just bought one from Joe Palma and it looks just like it.
