Howdyall:

While in Florida, I was forced to get a new camera, since memory cards for my old one were no longer to be found.

Went to Best Buy, with the following criteria:  (1) had to have a zoom lense, the zoomier the better; (2) had to fit into a shirt pocket when not in use; and (3) had to take a standard, as opposed to proprietary battery.

I found it!  A Canon SX100 IS.

All of the above.  For just under 300 clams, literally $299.99 including tax.  Plus another 14 for a 2 Gig memory card.

Oh!  Scream, etc.

If you're into drive-by pornography, like me, this camera works great.

Ahem.

Here's a shot a long ways off.

Okay i don't want to anoy my friend Dave, but do you folks follow my point here ?

Iam able to take stills standing faraway from the objests using zoom & its digital zoom the stills seem above were taken in that fashion.while i wanted to take macros, super macros and normally standing beside the objects but its not the order of the day ! yes its very funny that each time i want to shoot the image i have to go away far enough to zoom-in.. :(

So dave check if your macros & super macros are working fine and are images clear that you shoot standing close to objects..?

love,

Kris.

Dave the zoom distance is very impressive, but I notice the third image is not as focused.  Does the camera have image stabilizing software?  If not it may be worth getting a tripod or even resting the camera or your elbows, whatever, on a stable surface when you intend to use long zoom.

I'm guessing if you wanted the camera to fit in your shirt pocket the tripod is not an option, but even with image stabilizing it is very important to keep the camera as steady as possible with high zoom levels.  In good light you may also be able to help the situation by using faster than normal shutter speed.  Sorry, I don't know what control options your camera gives you.

Does it have digital and optical zoom or just digital?  Optical tends to be clearer, so if you can get away with just using optical on it's own, it is usually better.

Kris, I haven't played much with macro, but I seem to recall experiencing similar problems to you.  I will have to try it out again and experiment a little.  I'm still using my camera, almost exclusively, in point and click mode.

Dear Neo  :)

it seems all the new canon's manufactured from the month of oct-nov 2007 have a new additional feature called multiple face metering but mine is 2006 end manufactured and purschased in dec-2006.there were serious techinical glitch in my batch..but newer once seems to be okay !

i will love to get feed back from you & dave about the problems that i have with my camera ! hope to hear from you both in this regard.

thanks & love,

Kris  :)

Dear Dave  :)

Speaking about regular AA sized rechargable batteries, have you tried the latest Sanyo 2700MHZ made in japan.they are fentastic and when used with smart chargers made by sanyo, sony, camellion(one hour or one & half hour fast chargers) they last twice as much as a regular rechargable batteries.and guess what they do not loose the juice even after a 3 to 4 weeks of non use ! try it to believe it..

It's got both digital and optical zoom, and yeah, keeping it steady is a serious issue at great distances.  I take a deep breath and do a quasi yoga pose, but a tripod will be needed for anything requiring holding the camera for a long while, e.g., timed exposures.

There is software to tweak the images and improve the focus, but I was just messing around there.

Got some great pics of hot women in cafes . . . . . .
