Nice pictures tad,

About the olives, you see also here more and more people are buying olive tree's for the garden... The tree's are really a hype here the last few years... tree's of that sizes can you also buy here ... but they are really expensive so not so much people has buy tree's from that size.. But prices are going down a little the last couple years but a couple of 1000 euro's still being a lot of money! :)

Robbin these trees are evidently abundant in california, they were purchased from an old grove that was scheduled for demolition by a developer.

my tillandsia log, I picked up a basket full the otherday at another wholsalers and glued them to this oak limb.

Second pic is a greyish tillandsia that somehow made its way into my coat pocket from a trip to Mexico one time, I told it it couldnt stay here and needed to go back home, but it wouldnt listen.

Tad,

Nice "fireball" bromeliad's. Rick in Ft. Lauderdale gave me 2 clippings from his yard last year and one grew a double clump and the other died as a friend pulled it out the ground to "look" at it, I know, he's not that bright.

Anyway, interesting looks at some other things, you know the mules are my fav though.

Thanks Michael, I am going up to H town to deliver a load of palms to a grower in alvin and then I am stopping in at teas nursery in Houston, to get some more tillandsias.

they seem to really like living in the prop house so I am going to splurge and get a mess of them, they seem easy enough to grow

Give me a holler before you come, I'll need some things and I also have a thing or two for you.

I make it to Tea's about 2x a year. Specifically for a 4 cubic foot bag of #4 Pharok Perlite and coarse vermiculite. Only place in town I can find these materials of the size I need. Their prices are very high but the selection makes up for it. I've also been known to pick up quite a few used pots, another item which is suprisingly hard to find around here.

Hola Tad

Interesting that we see diferent things on your nursery besides palms (olives trees, agaves, desert roses etc) by the way, what kind of soil are you using on the desert roses?? pure perlite???

Saludos

  • 2 weeks later...

No, not pure perlite, but the mix contains 1/2 or better perlite so that in the high humidity of the prop house we still drain well and dont damp off.

I will pull some update shots in the afternoon.

Here is a pic of some newly rooted olives.

I had to do a little engineering on the cool wall system, the pumps were only partially submerged and were generating a bit of heat and catching some serious salt build up from our city water. I plumbed in this barrel and it fully submerged the pumps, dropped the temp a good 10 degrees and added a much needed resivoir in case of water shut off, I estimate this cool wall evaporates about 200 plus gallons a day when its hot! Ducky likes the water 74 to 78 degrees f. the otherday when it was really hot and we were processing cuttings I dumped five bags of ice in the barrel it was really chilly but it didnt last long, the barrel gets turned over about 3 times an hour with both pumps running.
