mppalms 5 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 What min. temp will this palm take? I've read 30 deg. F (from Palms for SoCal) and -4 deg. C from a NZ source. Makes a big difference. Thanks.. Jason
MattyB 2,158 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 -4C (24.8F) seems impossible to me for this plant. Geonoma have such thin leaves. Last year mine saw 37F in the greenhouse. I think Matt in SD's saw 33F outside. His plant looks great, I don't think it had any damage. I don't know of any others around.
Shon 20 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Rusty has one under canopy and saw the high 30's. He made an intresting observation, he felt it grew better in colder weather than summer.
mppalms 5 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 I have definitely heard the same thing. They grow very well in the bay area fog belt. But, I don't know what sort of cold they can take. I'm guessing closer to 30 deg. F than 25, but I'm clueless. Jason
