   My forum username derives from my website of the same name. It makes reference to a book by W.P. Treloar, in which the phrase was used to describe the coconut tree. I like historical references, as a form of continuity. The black cat omen is well known, of course. Are there many superstitions about black cats in India? Plenty of the European superstitions about cats are hilarious, most likely due to of a lack of religious faith during the Middle Ages.

Dear John  :)

yes,we do have lots of superstations on cat..and black cat are always welcome in ones house...while regular cats crossing ones feet while going for work is considered as bad omen...meaning that work for which the person is going is deem to fail. But we in our house are less fortunate to grow cats since our boxers keep hunting one after the other and our neighbourhood do not have cat at the monent... :)

I write you now

a tale of sorrow

For I've cried today

Like there’s no tomorrow

There’s no more greeting

at the front gate

No more welcome

From my old mate

His aching is over

That can be said

But it’s for the days gone by

That my tears are shed

I shan't write a lot

Cause it makes me upset

Just to inform you

About Jackson our pet

We had him put down

Last Friday night

His suffering is now over

From his medical plight

For 12 lucky years

We enjoyed his brotherhood

He charmed us with love

He charmed the whole neighbourhood

I tried early on

not to get close

But before I knew it

A strong bond arose

Not many people know

That for every palm plant

My mate rested near me

With that heartfelt pant

So I write these last lines

as my brow forms a furrow

For I've cried hard today

Like there is no tomorrow

Jackson

:(  Sorry for your loss Wal.

Jackson seemed like a very cool dog.  Your poem got me all misty-eyed!

It's hard to lose a companion... I'm sure everyone who has posted in this thread can relate.

Wal,

From another dog lover, who has raised quite a few, I am sorry to hear about Jackson.

I know too well what the lose of that constant sidekick feels like. He obviously lucked out big time when he chose you as his master.

Wal,

I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss. I never understood how attached one can be to a dog until we acquired dogs of our own (for the first time in my life). This is Wilbur ® and Orville (L). They'll be 10 years old a month from now, and we've had them since they were five and a half weeks old. They're twin brothers.

Thanks sincerely for your supportive comments, very much appreciated. He really was a major player in the jungle building and I'm seriously considering some kind of memorial sign "Jackson's Jungle".

Here he was overseeing that new bed from a couple years back.

Wal,

That's a beautiful heart felt poem you wrote, and it might apply to all of us pet oweners. My mama cat passed away a few months ago, and I will always remember her and think of her. She was one of the most gental, loving cats I've ever known, and now I have a stone above her grave nessled amongst the palms.

Like Bo, I have acquired, not two but three small dogs, the only dogs I've owned in my adulthood. Mine look just like Bo's except they are red instead of white. They are a cross with a red male poodle and a Maltise. They are called Maltipoos and hybrid dogs are very much in demand these days.

Mine are rowty and play rough house with each other, and last week one either fell or was pushed off a chair and broke her right front leg. I didn't see it happen but there was immediate screaming and it was obvious something was terribly wrong. She was at the vet in 30 minutes, and the X-ray showed both bones in her leg were broken.

Now the poor little thing is limping around with a cast on one leg, and the Vet said I had to issolate her from the other dogs, a hard task to do. She whines if I leave her in her containment pen to long, and she only seems happy in my lap. I guess I'll be playing nurse for the next two or three months.

When you enter the yard now you are greeted by a hidden "Woof!" coming from foliage somewhere near you. It belongs to Kane, Jeff's new 'puppy'. He is well camouflaged when he is in the brush and will follow Kona around everywhere.
