Bromeliads were planted in the understory-  I always thought that they needed more light than this to grow best.

Awesome and bizarre at the same time.  This is an Alocasia or Colocasia-- can someone explain the difference to me?

Both days combined probably a thousand.

You gotta love digital cameras.  The 1 gigabyte memory cards  helped a lot too-- gave me total freedom.  Just panicked reckless shooting.

Will- I agree.  If you know in the back of your head that you have a limited time to explore Fairchild you tend to get overwhelmed.

I envy you guys that live in florida-- you get to make a visit anytime you like.  Its a shame that we don't have anything similar here in the Philippines.  Really ironic considering that we are here in the tropics

Hmmmm.... start my own botanical garden...hmmmm... the family does have some idle land.....hmmmm......

I'll let that simmer in my brain in the mean time.

Neat thing with Fairchild is that it is planned out to have really jumbled up areas that you really have to explore slowly (like the rainforest and the conservatory) where you tend to focus on the individual plants and you have wide open spaces where you appreciate it as a garden as a whole.  This shot is like a combinatinof both aspects.

I sure hope I didn't piss of any of the vendors.  I was taking a lot of pictures and was very nosey with camera.  I think it was obvious that I was just a curious tourist.

I wonder how old these Pseudophoenix eckmanii are?
