Great bunch of pics  Matty and Paul  but be carefull there is such a thing as 'palm overload".  There are some that may not be able to handle so much in such a short period of time!  lol.  Well, at least you are breaking it up every now 'n then for a breather.

Aren't digital cameras a blessing.  Wasn't all that long ago that this Palmtalk site was just that, all talk and few pics.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Yeah, it's amazing Al!  I'm glad to see the threads becoming heavier in the pictures.  It makes communicating and especially I.D.ing much easier.

So, I'm gonna go ahead and post some pics of Bo, Paul and I walking around Jerry's.  Jerry was nice enough to let Bo show us around his place even though he wasn't gonna be around for a few days.  Thanks Jerry!

HawaiiII-322.jpg

One of the coolest things at Jerry's was this new step work.

HawaiiII-323.jpg

The dude was still working on it, but man, was is beautiful.  I don't know how he cut the stone to be so square.

HawaiiII-324.jpg

Our time got cut short at Jerry's because the sky really opened up.  This is me frantically trying to shoot a pic.....of something.

Bo said it was gonna be a beautiful day, rain unlikely.  Then within 10-15 minutes, BAM!  We forgot our umbrellas.  Bo will never make it as a forcaster.

Ok, well that's it!  Here we are, held up under the eves of Jerry's pavillion looking for a dry spot.  What a sucky pictorial by me.  Sorry Jerry, no one will see the splendors of your garden in this thread.  Unless Paul comes through with some rainy shots.  But I doubt he did.  He was whining about the new camera being sesitive to rain.  Whah!  Come on Paul!  It's not even your camera, don't worry about it.

Matt and Paul, thanks for giving me hours of palm gazing enjoyment!  And I literally mean hours!  The internet here is kind of slow downloading pics, but I still enjoyed the hell out of this thread and waited patiently for each pic to download.  I felt like I was along for the ride.  And the commentary is a hoot!  Thanks for taking the time to post all those pictures.

Paul and Matt,

Yes, lots of great pictures! Thanks for taking the time to post them all!

And Jim,

Paul is correct re post 360: Areca vestiaria "maroon" in the first photo and the other 3 are all Licuala mattanensis var. mapu.

I finally got a little time and a decent internet connection to be able to look at your trip better.  I still am not through it all.  There are some really beautiful gardens there.  I hope to be able to make one myself someday.  I think anything in the thread will grow pretty well here.  It was great for the Big Island folks to let you show there work so well.

Great job.
