Namaste Kris,

Ram Ram.

Deepawali is being celebrated here today and everything is closed but we are working to get some truck loads of palms on an inter-island ferry this morning. I will post some pics later.

You should explain to members the importance of Deepawali to Indian people.

It is the only day that Indo-fijians will not work.

A bit like Christmas for Christians, with firecrackers and colored lights and many super-sweet foods and of course curry dishes.

Enjoy,

Jim

Dear Friends  :)

you all wish to know why this festival is celeberated & what signifiance ! here are my grand ma stories to this function..

one is Lord Rama's victory over king Ravana of ceylon(Lankeshwer).here rama killed ravana on this day.But this is the North indian reason for celeberating this festival.

another reason is Lord Sri Krishna killed the demon Narakasura for his eveil behiviour.this is a reason why deepawali is celeberated in south india.

So the gist of the story is triamph of good over evil forces..

some what like Lord of the rings_Movie type !

But all i know is on deepawali day all relatives gather at our grand ma's house where special cooking takes place and lots of sweets & savouries are prepared in our house and youth all burst crackers, while married couples all visit temples & places of worship and some take their beloved to beach, movies or relative houses..

while children all dress-up in new garments and play with fireworks and eat delicacies cooked in our houses..and take oil bath on that day..

what iam saying is eat, drink & be happy(with items prepared in house)and these 2 days are usually public holidays.southers celeberate the first day while the northerners celeberate this the following day.that is how this is being celeberated for ages..!

Lots of love,

Kris  :)

love conquers all..
