An Ohana Nui movie post

Saw a movie today at the Balmoral cinemas "Across the Universe", strictly for Beatles fans (probably covers most people), I loved it, something different, I think the genre would be musical romance comedy ?

"Across the Universe"  home page

I intend to see "Death at a Funeral" soon, has anybody seen this at all ?

What's everyone else seen recently ? At the movies or dvd will do.

Growing up with Transformers as a kid I couldn't wait to see the new move but  couldn't get to the cinema to see it so I had to wait until release to DVD.

I finally got my chance to see it yesterday and was absolutely blown away.

Just goes to show what 145 million US dollars can buy these days....

Made the move to Mandurah - West Aust

I saw Michael Clayton when it came out. I thought it was disorganised. There are other films that begin with the end of the story then go back, with further flashbacks etc. And a more organized film was produced. But not here.

The acting etc. though was great as always from these actors.

I watched 1408 on pay per view. It stars John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson. It was a real stinker. I usually love anything John is in. It was supposed to be a thriller/horror type deal but it ended up being pretty comical.

We watched Sahara on Sunday night.  We had seen it before and liked it.  Of course, Matthew McConnauhey can make bad lines look - I mean sound! - pretty good!

I haven't been to the movies in a while.  Nothing out that I feel warrants the ridiculously high price to get in!

I just saw "1408" and thought it was rather decent. I read the short story (I'm a big Stephen King fan).

Also, "Mr. Brooks" which was great.

Another movie to watch for is "The Mist", coming out in Nov. Its based on another Stephen King short story and the previews appear to show it following the book pretty well. Here are 2 previews;

Watched "The Painted Veil" with Ed Norton and Naomi Watts Sunday night. Like watching a serious novel, in a good way.

The location in China was a forest of giant bamboo and native fishtail palms.

Hopefully Control will be awesome.  I love Joy Division and have read the biography written by his wife, "Touching from a Distance".  I understand Closer is going to be tied to this book.

Just purchased "Raising Arizona" on DVD.

I think I laughed myself into a stomach cramp the first time I saw this film.  From the Cohen Brothers.

Just saw the ad for that too. I'm a Cohen brothers fan too.

Love their stuff and Nicholas Cage as a geek is pretty funny. :D

"Adaptation" was by the same screenwriter/director that did "Being John Malkovich" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Kind". I can't think of a more original moviemaker.

Just a movie aside. Have you ever seen those old movies that ended up having a lot of "future stars" in it?

"Fast times at Ridgemont High" is one. I just saw snippets of this one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097967/ and was suprised at the "younger stars from 18 years ago.
