Chamaerops humilis seems to grow better there than at our place.

Wow...

This is one of the nicest and most complete Palms/tropical plants pictorial threads I've ever seen in this board. Many thanks to Jim and his wife for showing us everything in details. Thare are so many interesting new palms that I'll certainly come back later to observe each picture in detail again.

Wow... time to go back for sure. How many days did you spend in Singapore? It is harder for us to look at plants these days, because of our little ones. They got bored so fast....

Thanks for posting photos.

Fiji Jim

I live this thread.  Thank you for taking  the time to post pictures.

I went to singapore for a convention last year but didn't have the time to check out the gardens.  Looks like I really missed a lot.

p.s. Post 123 I think is Rhapis Multifida

Glad that many are enjoying these pics.

We were only in Singapore for four or five days and spent most of a day at the garden but only saw about half of the place.

Gene, thanks for the correction on that last post. After seeing it here I realised it was not the med fan. However I would like some of those  R.multifidia here.

Now a few more orchid and then the remainder are palm shots.

I would like to know the ID of this palm.

There were a few in the garden that were not labeled but over-all the naming was well done with only a couple that were incorrect. IMHO

I will post 3 stills of the same palm.

Dear Jim  :)

i was just worshipping your stills so beautiful and the fan palms in this page are mindblowing !

And irony's of life is that few years back i was in singapore for shopping and our cab driver insisted me to try my SLR camera newly pruschased inside this garden but i insisted to him to take me to simlin tower & Simlin square to see what is new in the electronics front.today i relaise how dum kind of a Nut i was then...i repent every day for not hearing the cab drivers suggestions... :(

and your coverage is just a testoment & proof what was inside this garden..

thanks & Lots of love,

Kris  :)

love conquers all..

Singapore does seem to have a lot going for it with its great equatorial location and proximity to many other exotic places. It is a gardeners paradise but it also is a very strict culture.

When I first went there in 1976 it was as a stop-over flight where the connection had failed and I was immediately detained and not allowed to leave the airport as my hair was too long. So spent the night in a cell. welcome to Singapore.

Although not so strict these days it is still very regimented and there is common knowledge of heavy fines for many simple but anti-social offences such as j-walking. Also $500 fine for having chewing gum. $1000 for dealing or selling gum. Death penalty for drug trafficking and many others that would be totally overlooked in western countries.

But after saying all that it feels perfectly safe everywhere, no litter and an overall politeness and consideration amongst all peoples.

Also we never saw any police at all but video cameras were surveying in many places.

Take it or leave it it is still a palm paradise, food also.

Now we all know this beauty!!
