Up here in the PNW, out in the woods, I mean DEEP in the woods, miles away from civilization, I have seen some kind of bioluminescent... something... growing beneath our Western Sword Ferns, Polystychum munitum.  I assumed it was moss but after some googling, I really don't know what it is.  

It is very rare, I have done lots of walking in the woods at night with no light, it's very hard to find, and not something you can find on purpose, only on accident.  It is also very small, not sure how big, maybe a half inch square.  I thought I was imagining it at first.  I have only seen this, maybe 3 times.

There's supposedly a few bioluminescent fungi native to Washington State.. Your encounter could have been similar to what this guy encountered last year:

What color?

@amh I believe it was greenish, not much color more a dull glow.

Interesting, I wonder if maybe its residual glow from worms or maybe other bugs.

Maybe bacteria?
