To give everyone the maximum amount of notice, the Fall 2022 meeting will be held in Lakeland.  Here is the current itinerary.  There may be some modification to this as Bonnet Springs Park is scheduled to have their grand opening the same day.

Hollis Garden

Park at Hollis Garden (702 E Orange St, Lakeland, FL 33801) or Barnett Park (215 S Lake Ave, Lakeland, FL 33801).  Meet at the garden entrance.  Tour the garden and the municipal plantings near City Hall and the Orange St. Parking Garage.  The area boasts an impressive array of cold-tender species as well as an arid garden, a butterfly garden, and several species of bamboo in a neoclassical setting.

There are many options available. 

Below are just a few:

  • The Garden Bistro is onsite next to Hollis Garden overlooking Lake Mirror. 
  • Texas Cattle Company is a short walk down the Lake Mirror Promenade.
  • Like seafood and steak?  Head to Harry's Seafood Bar and Grille near Munn Park. 
  • Need to practice your ax throwing?  Ax-Caliber is just up the street from City Hall.  Feel free to ask or use Google Maps to find a dining option you like.

Parking is easiest if you come down Bay St.  Park on the right side of the road after the bend where it turns into Lake Wire Dr.  We'll tour the palm collection started in 2005 with the assistance of CFPACS member Tom Broome and the late but great Doug Morrison.

The itinerary for the meeting was approved tonight.  It has changed to include two additional sites from the list above.  Unfortunately, Bonnet Springs Park is booked almost through the end of the year.

Meet at the parking area at the given address.  We’ll tour the palms, cycads, and tropical plantings at the playground, at Cleveland Heights Golf Course, and near the boat ramp at Lake Hollingsworth.  If we need additional parking, there is a lot at Veteran’s Park, 1000 E Edgewood Dr.

Meet at Kinzy Jr.’s house nestled in the hills of the Lakeland Highlands.  The garden boasts an impressive array of temperate, oceanic, desert, and tropical palm species as well as tropical hardwoods. 

Tropical palms like Veitchia and Coconuts share a small lot with temperate and oceanic genera like Trachycarpus and Howea while steps away from xeric and desert genera like Hyphaene, Brahea, and Washingtonia filifera from Nevada’s Moapa Valley.  80+ species spanning 50 genera in little more than 1/3rd of an acre.

Tour the garden, buy some new plants, and enjoy some time in the shade.
