Chambreyonia macro and Euturpe Edulis side by side in Nocal

JEFF IN MODESTO

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know the experts have told me that this is impossible , but take a ganders at my 10 year old Chambreyonia macro and Euterpe Edulis side by side living in perfect harmony in MooooDesto , San Joaquin valley, Northern California .

Never been protected nor damaged by cold. Euterpe has manganese deficiency that it is growing out of.

I started these guys about 10 or maybe 15 years ago from 4 inch pot. They went straight into the ground.

Yes I know, im “ cheating ‘ by not planting them out in the open in full sun, but thats where i had space and since they are on north side of my house I figuired that they would benifet from a little shade in our 110f mid summer temps.

Not cheating at all. No different than any of us creating a canopy with Kings or another fast growing species and then planting more sensitive palms below the canopy line.

I hope my Euterpe looks as good as your one day. Mine only has a few rings of trunk so far.

Nice!

My Flamethrower is slowww growing and the leaves are more yellow than green with the sun it's getting right now. It's still in a pot and has 3 leaves (2 of which are decent) and thankfully a new spear on the way. I'm not sure where i'll put it in the ground yet, but it's not going in this year, I'd say.
