Southern Ag 8-0-12 premium palm fertilizer

Today I swung over to Dolin’s Garden Center in St. Pete.  Picked up two bags of Fox farm soil and a 50 lb bag of fertilizer.   What’s everyone’s thought on this palm fertilizer?   It’s got great minors.  What’s caught my eye was the calcium.   I’ve noticed the palm fertilizer at the big box stores.  None have calcium in it.  Maybe that’s the premium part on the label.  $63.00 for a 50lb bag.

NPK 8-0-12 - Do palms actually need Phosphorous at all or are they okay without it?

Wish I could have found that 8-0-12. I ended up with 6-6-6 and am still recovering from a serious allergic reaction to the phosphate. FL soils are very high in phosphate so the middle # isn't vital. Phosphorous is required for abundant flowering for ornamental plants. Palms are often deficient in potassium in FL and don't need the excessive nitrogen found in turf fertilizer.

Do you want your palms to produce seeds and live happily afterwards? Then 8-2-12 plus micro better.
how much…. Ah 50# for $63 I can’t read the sources of the fertilizer. Timed release or fast acting? In warm to hot climates it’s usually fast acting regardless. Apply first of every month March to August. It gets $$ fast if you have a lot of big palms.
