Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Trying to avoid the constant mess of these yellow seeds from our palm now that we have got decking.

Can someone tell me when to cut these ( i assume before they start falling) and the best way to do it?

Thanks

It's OK to cut the flower stalk (inflorescence) now before it sets seeds, but it'll be challenging at that height!  Hopefully others with experience will chime in but I would assume that a long ladder and pole saw are involved.  Good luck!

Thanks. It's next to a flat roof so should have access.

So do I cut them off just where the bright yellow part starts? And leave the rest attached to the tree?

Probably either way will work but it'll probably look better if you can cut it off near the trunk.

Even with an extended pole saw, chances are your going to nick a bunch of fronds and your not going to be able to reach the backside anyway. Sometimes your just left with a mess while the palm is doing its thing. Thats a big tree and your going to make yourself crazy trying to pluck out those flowers..
