Kim 3,969 Report post Posted April 30 Finally! An old tattered frond sloughed off the Dypsis hovomantsina. Mr. D. carlsmith dropped a frond a few weeks ago and made a display but now it has colored up with a red ring. Ooo là là! Nice contrast with the yellow! Elsewhere, in the spiny forest, Verschaffeltia splendida reveals a demure new leaf. I am enjoying these new purchases on the lanai as a spring arrangement together with the nest found on the ground. Soon they will take their chances in the garden. …and a couple of orchids that popped open recently. Post your spring colors here! 24

Tracy 6,750 Report post Posted April 30 5 hours ago, Kim said: Post your spring colors here! None of the really colorful trunks popping right now in my garden like you have Kim. Instead I'll have to deviate from palms and share a Tillandia in bloom, some color on an emerging leaf and fruit on Ficus dammaropsis, Dypsis bef with it's interesting "kangaroo brown" on it's base and a new leaf opening with reins still holding leaflets together, and finally some Aloes blooming in the front showered in the golden light as the sun lowers on the Western horizon. 7

realarch 6,281 Report post Posted April 30 Beautiful photos everyone, I need to post a few. Kim, your hovo looks terrific. That mellow yellow color of the newly revealed trunk is unusual. Tim

Kim 3,969 Report post Posted May 2 Thanks for sharing all these spring colors! Tracy, I grow tillandsias in San Diego too, they are so carefree and the sudden popping of the blooms is a nice jolt of color. I never thought of F. dammaropsis as being colorful, but your photo proves the point. And those aloes really put on a display! John, would that be Dypsis mirabilis with the colorful crownshaft? Looking good. Love the exotic orchids and the mottled Pinanga! And of course the classic flower of Hawaii, Hibiscus, so pretty. Adam, I am always amazed by the array of species you can grow -- looks like many Hawaiian gardens. Kerriodoxa! Awesome! I'm also growing that pendulous Hibiscus schizopetalus, but mine is not flowering at the moment. Wow, Tim, that photo with all the different textures and colors, just wow! I am green with envy! Nice California cocos, Alex! If it ever stops raining, I'll go out to search for more spring colors.

How about we focus not on the Ficus dammaropsis, but the Cerratozamia mexicana behind it instead? Dendrobium chrysotoxum flowers all opened now. Hibiscus in am drizzle and new leaf opening on Dypsis decipiens, with it's nice red pin-striping.
