Not bad for $30

That's too much for a Queen palm not even showing mature leaf yet. They were around $15.00 here in Jacksonville, Fl. for a more mature palm just 3 years ago, now maybe $25.

Check out this nice Triangle Palm, Dypsis (now  Chrysalidocarpus) decaryi I spotted at a local Home Depot in Jacksonville, Fl. , for $129.00 a couple months ago. 20230506_160116 (1).jpg

Interesting to compare the prices. I've seen ones that size for sale in the UK for around $80.

I guess the profit expectations between growers and retailers might influence prices from place to place. Overall supply could factor in also.

I saw these palms yesterday at a local Home Depot here in Jacksonville, Fl. : 3 gal Coconuts $27.98, thirty gal. Adonidia & Foxtails both $199.00,  and 30 gal. Queens $169.00. Only the Queens stand a chance here unprotected.

They had just been delivered a couple weeks ago and were still wrapped up then. Kind of shocked to see them discounted so fast…Walmart didn’t have enough time to put them in decline.

Hey D Palm. How do Queen Palms generally do in the cold in Glen St. Mary. I know that's the coldest area in the Jacksonville area. Jax itself has hundreds of big Queen Palms since the big box stores carry them every year large size B&B since the early to mid 90's.

@howfam 1 and 3 gallons die. This 6 gallon has enough to mass to probably live a 19-20 degree blast…but I plan on protecting it this first couple of winters. There is a queen off mud lake road in my county that was unscathed going into spring. It is among a tall slash pines though that I imagine created a nice micro climate. My Bismarck’s fair better though than queens.

Near the house/south facing wall seems to not matter on damage accumulated. The largest factor imo is overhead (slash pines) and mass to the specimen. The new campground here added some very nice mules also.

One thing I’ve noticed, is Jax does not have a lot of volunteer queens spreading like areas further south.

@howfam as of Saturday they still had 7 left at that discounted price if you wanted a few. Walmart off exit 336 on I-10. There was 2 metal carts total like that at that time picture was taken.

Lowe's in Issaquah. Two or three weeks ago they had a second shipment of smaller 3g size chamaerops, phoenix  roebelenii, and big trachys.

I'm afraid there's not much selection at big box stores here in the northeast  ( specifically New York City and Nassau County  ).

I've never seen anything exotics like Mule palms or Trachycarpus, etc. - only palms they sell here at my local Home Depots ( No Lowes stores that I know of in NYC  ) are usually the standard Majesty Palms :

But there are times where one does encounter "Finds" here. Once in the middle of winter a few years ago in the plant section at my local Valley Stream Home Depot , I actually spotted a Livistona chinensis , with several dozen plants growing  in one pot, and going for about $20!

There was a big snowstorm coming at the time, so I was *far* more interested in getting salt ( which was selling out quickly ) at the time than another plant - I figured that they started selling them, so I didn't have to get it right  then.  I haven't seen once anywhere here since. If only circumstance's were a bit different at the then, I would have defiantly gotten that palm , but you know, priorities haha

Thanks for that information, but I'm overwhelmed with Queen palms at my place. But, it's good to know what's out there.
