Coco pots

Has anyone used coco pots (pots from compressed coconut coir) for seedlings? What's your feedback? I read that when the plant needs a bigger pot you can just bury the old pot in the new, bigger one without removing it, which saves the plant the transplant shock.

Haven't used coco pots but I use peat "trays" to start vegetables and I end up peeling them off anyways. Maybe they are just a gimmick but I'm sure there's some stuff that they are good for. I've also seen people on this forum grow sabals in pots and transplant them out, I don't think that it's a big deal. The coco ones might be more expensive than regular pots though. I'm definitely just gonna buy regular trays once i'm done with the ones I have.

It's a good idea in theory, but I foresee a couple of problems: 1) they don't last very long. This is fine for vegetables, bedding plants, etc. that are only in them for a few months, but palm seedlings typically grow a lot more slowly, during which time the coir pot would probably fall apart. 2) I've never seen any particularly deep ones that would be suitable for remote-germinators (which would probably germinate their way out of the bottom of the pot long before they were meant to).
